Dear Normandy Community,

Happy Saturday!  I hope families took some time out to enjoy each other’s company today.  At times our new circumstances feel out of control, and at other times it feels like these events are giving us a moment to slow down and focus on the important things in our lives: relationships, health, and our community.  Thank you to those families who provided extra food for our BakPak program and to those who reached out with ideas about resources for the week ahead. We are sharing your ideas and kindness with those that need it.

As I said to our staff yesterday, this feeling of uncertainty is yucky for all of us.  It is especially yucky for our children. They have asked questions such as how will I have purposeful play at home and when will I go to recess or eat lunch.  We had some heart-tugging moments on Friday. I encourage each of us to be the calm in their storm. The teachers and I are working toward a common goal of providing learning for all students, while also providing families with resources to manage the shift to remote learning at home.  We want to join parents in being the calm in the storm. Teachers’ first official communication to you will come tomorrow through Seesaw when they send a picture to students of their new teaching space. They will also ask students to send a picture of their new learning space. Our purpose is twofold. We want to connect with students in a personal way and we want to problem solve with families we don’t hear from to help them get set up for Tuesday. On Monday, students will receive our Monday broadcast through Seesaw at 8:45AM.  Additionally, by the end of the day, teachers will send an email communication to all families about the week ahead. It will include information about attendance, assignments, and a proposed schedule for you to use at home to help structure your child’s day. We hope to support you at home as you transition to distance learning. Updated checklists for the weekend are below. We have made a few revisions as we learn more, so please read the bullets below carefully. Please do not hesitate to email me with any questions that arise.

Saturday & Sunday:

  • Check student backpacks for learning materials: passwords/logins, supplies, books, etc.
  • Prepare a learning space for your child at home.  Ideal spaces are in the kitchen or family room where your child has access to you for assistance.
  • Update Jeffco Connect.
  • Connect any Jeffco issued Chromebook to your home internet web access.
  • Those on personal devices will need to log-in to Google Chrome.  Using the Google Chrome browser is HIGHLY recommended so students have their personal bookmarks and extensions.
    • Download the Google Chrome browser (if you don’t currently have it) and sync your students’ accounts to it.  Below are directions to help you navigate downloading Chrome and syncing accounts.
      • Download the Chrome browser
      • Sync your student account to Google Chrome
        • Note: When it refers to your profile, it is the gray circle with the white silhouette inside, located next to the three dots at the top right corner of the screen. Make sure to turn on sync when prompted by saying, “Yes, I’m in,” and also link accounts when Jeffco prompts you to do so.
  • Log-in to the following sites:
    • Seesaw - K-5 students can use the QR code provided on Friday, 3rd-5th grade students may also log-in to Seesaw under the bookmarks on Chrome. If issues occur, use the QR code instructions to log-in in a new window.
    • Into Reading - Log-in at
    • Raz Kids - Per teacher instructions
    • Boost - Per teacher instructions
    • Lexia - Per teacher instructions

Sunday evening:

  • Look for a message from your teacher on Seesaw.  Please reply! It will be fun to see where we are all working from while at home.

  • 8:45am - Our Monday broadcast will be shared with students through Seesaw.  Check it out!
  • Come to Normandy between 9:00am and 1:00pm  to check out Chromebooks or to gather supplies.
